I guess, not all in a project is a success. This post is about one of those times:-)

The Sensors Unleashed project philosophy is to let every one look-at, investigate and collaborate to make the project better. This post will try to explain which tools I have chosen, and why. If anyone can argue and convince me in other directions, I’m open for suggestions.

For a long time I’ve had the urge to measure and control various parts of my life, house and garden, but haven’t been able to find any solution that really suited my needs. I had a lot of different criteria for my solution, but the 4 listed below was mandatory.
- Open Source:
I have seen too much closed source software but because of the time to market, the developers had to cut too many corners regarding safety, structuring, bug fixing etc. I don’t want that - not even for free :-)
- Open Hardware:
I like working with Kicad and layout my own boards. To be able to open up an already made design and change it to my needs would be SO nice! What good is open hardware if the software used for editing costs 8000$….
- Open Standards
I, of course don’t want to buy any product, which uses undocumented communication, and the only way to get the product’ data is by reverse engineering the protocol - such waste of time. The standards used should be readily available for download without any pay-wall.
- Community Driven
The most innovative ideas come from people actually using a product. This is the part most companies don’t get. I would love to work with a project, where products are made based on specific needs and interests of its users. Not the other way around.
